About 

Devika Kher is currently a Master of Public Policy candidate at the University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy (Class of 2021).  

 

Devika was a Research Assistant with Data and Evidence for Justice Reform program at the World Bank for the summer of 2020. Before joining Harris, she worked for five years at The Takshashila Institution, an independent policy think tank based in Bangalore, India. Devika holds an undergraduate and a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Mumbai. 

Devika is broadly interested in studying the interaction of labor and urban governance challenges from a gender perspective. Her research focus includes public economics, urban governance, and labor economics. She has worked on topics like female labor employment in India, expenditure incurred by the Union Government on public health, and the role of markets within the Indian states. Devika has published opinion editorials on urban and livelihood challenges for renowned newspapers and websites like Mint, Huffington Post, The Wire, Scroll.in, and Deccan Herald.
